The Founding of the College

Nowadays, the world has advanced and prospered with material goods, values, and cutting-edge technology. However, morality, especially in the mind has become less and less advanced. Perhaps this is because humans in the high-tech era live a life of constant movement and see the Dharma as a distant thing, a boring thing, or something unnecessary. Society is focused on teaching and learning in the professional aspect, but conversely causes a lack of cultivation. There is a lack of emphasis on the principles of Dharma teachings that are close to the heart and can be applied in work and in life. Even though people will learn and study until they are considered intelligent and clever, morality is needed to guide the mind, provide wisdom and teach a person how to properly live life. Without morality, life would inevitably be completely lacking in an important aspect.

Your MajestyAcharn Buddhadasa once said that someone only studying books and professions, and not studying Dharma enough ...means the education system is like a dog with its tail cut off. He considered Thailand's education system incomplete and deficient. The part that is missing is the matter of Dharma. If you want a complete education, you need to study Dharma. Curriculum must be organized for children to practice Dharma seriously and continuously every day in school. Therefore, Thailand's education needs to be reformed. The Mass of the People Foundation therefore initiated the construction of Bhavana Bodhigun Vocational College to be the first model of educational reform that uses Dharma to teach "wisdom" in Thailand at Koh Samui, in Surat Thani Province. It is open to those who pass the selection criteria to study for free with accommodation, food, and comprehensive care provided. The school aims to cultivate students who not only seek knowledge, but are responsible and moral.

Cultivate wisdom, build a career, awaken to awareness with Dharma leading your heart.

Suthep Thaugsuban, Chairman of the College Executive Committee

“Studying only books and professions, and not studying Dharma enough...means the education system is like a dog with its tail cut off.”

Phra Dhammakosachan Ngum Inthapanyo

The foundation stone for Bhavana Bodhigun Vocational College was laid on Monday, on the 3rd waning moon of the 6th lunar month, corresponding to May 23, 2016 at 9:49 a.m., with Chao Prakun Phra Thamwimonmoli, the 16th Region Abbot, presiding over the ceremony with Mr. Suthep Thaugsuban, Chairman of the Mass of the People Foundation for reform of Thailand and the committee along with many citizens.

Bhavana Bodhigun Vocational College was founded with the vision of Phrarajawat Bodhikun, the original religious title being. Phra Prabhavana Bodhikhun (Bodhi Candasaro). The Mass of the People Foundation was determined to build a vocational college to be a model for educational reform, by organizing teaching and learning according to Buddhadasa's guidelines, and teaching professions along with teaching Dharma. This would create professionals who are good, moral people and who adhere to the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.
